We all have a responsbility to ensure our and others’ safety
I have castigated duvets, because of my inability to stuff them without damaging myself both mentally and physically.
After weeks of self isolation, I am still not more proficient, but a little better at dealing with my frustrations.

Hide AdThese, of course, are minor compared to the challenges others are unfortunately suffering with the loss of loved ones, businesses and jobs.
However, we all have been supported by a huge national effort by front line workers.
We are now entering a period of opportunity and risk, by balancing reactivating the coronavirus with reopening parts of economy in small baby steps.
How we do this will depend on society continuing to show discipline on social distancing, whether at work, at leisure or as appropriate the necessity of self isolation of the most vulnerable.

Hide AdFailure to do so has the potential to increase more deaths and put more strain on a NHS deserving of a break.
Everyone sees this through there own prism, wanting more freedom on one hand, without always accepting their personal responsibility for themselves and others’ safety.
The message of social distancing is clear.
As we enter this pivotal stage we can apply this in our own lives, employers in their businesses meeting their obligations to employees, who, in turn, can expect to work in a safe environment, and, of course, however difficult it may be applying this to our schools etc.
Where we cannot do this safely, remote working has become more embedded and acceptable..

Hide AdRecognition this dreaded virus will not be eradicated for the foreseeable future means our own actions to maintain social distancing, in whatever future freedoms we enjoy, will be crucial to revitalising economy and keeping us safe.
I hope the great national effort is maintained as we enter this crucial next stage.
I am optimistic that we will not throw the benefits shown for many weeks overboard, as we see a way forward, by losing discipline now.
