Trust in the unknown is not restricted to a belief in God

In Mexico City, where 30 million people cram into a city, many in very poor areas, there is no lockdown.

One man reported many simply don’t believe the virus is real! He said 20 people in his market had died, so far! Did they refuse to acknowledge reality due to fear? Fear of lack of resource to survive financially and fight this unseen enemy?

Many people have difficulties believing in any kind of God we can’t see, touch or explain.

I am glad I can’t explain God. What kind of God can be completely explained? That God would no longer be God, but, simply another of our many theories, schemes or powers to be manipulated and used to suit our agendas.

We must acknowledge our fears. We do fear anything we cannot explain or control. We need answers. When we get them, do they satisfy, or bring more questions?

I compare this to getting in a car, on a bus, train or plane. Do you understand how that engine works? Can you explain how thousands of tons of metal can fly through the air? We simply trust these modes of transport will deliver us safely to our destination. How can we be sure the brakes will work?

There is so much in this world we can’t see, understand or explain. Yet, we trust in them. Some of them with tremendous power, power which could and sometimes does prove to be devastating when it fails or goes wrong.

Where did this virus come from? How did it develop? How does it work? Yet, for the most part, we treat its power with respect and caution.

The real difference between these things and God is quite simple. God does not fail. His supreme wisdom and power is used only for our good. That is His agenda, that we may reach our destination safely. If only we could learn to trust in that and get on board.

We have spent huge amounts of money building a future, a better world and a better life. Often, the cost has been even greater than just money.

Jesus has paved the way and is trying to lead us to a world, a future and life that cannot begin to be compared to this one. He is trying to guide us toward it. We cannot see Jesus, but he is real. We cannot explain God, because his way and his love is far greater and beyond our reckoning, but we can trust Him and see the lasting difference it will make.
