Reader letter: Time for a Sheffield star for John Burkhill

A star outside Sheffield Town Hall is what we all want him to have, but apparently he doesn’t fit the criteria.

Yes, he has the Freedom of the City, which is a great award, but I think that was to stop people going on about him getting a star.

The only person I could think of for getting him the recognition nationally was television presenter Dan Walker.

He has done it with other people, but for some reason he is not replying to any emails about John.

We all know of what he has done and does. Now it’s time more of the UK knows how many people he has helped, walking for charity for more than 47 years.

I want to ask you all to email Mr Walker and make him realise that us in Sheffield want John to have more recognition.

To be aged 81 and still do what he does is truly amazing. Come on Sheffield, help me get John what he deserves.
