'Our teachers do an amazing job so please show your appreciation for them'

I think every parent out there will have a newfound appreciation for teachers, particularly among parents, who are suddenly tasked with home-schooling, grappling with new terms and math equations that may seem impossible to solve, while some have been trying to work from home at the same time.

I think many will agree that homeschooling has not been an easy feat and while many may have taken teachers for granted, we are forced to confront the reality of the essential role they play in our children’s lives.

In the emergence of this crisis when there was a lot of uncertainty over when and if schools were going to close and how it was going to be organised, school leaders, governors but most importantly teachers and front line staff were brilliant in how they responded.

Teachers have embraced remote learning opportunities as well as providing emergency childcare to key workers.

When all this is over and everything returns to normal, the teachers will be there ready to work on transition and ensuring the gaps in learning are addressed.

Teachers are doing an amazing job. They more than deserve the newfound appreciation being shown to them. As we clap for our NHS staff and key workers tonight, please remember our teachers.
