Multiple, competing agendas mean mixed results for us all, says Sheffield minister

It is easy for the Opposition in politics, whoever they may be – hear what the government have to say, oppose it, hope the government were wrong then shout ‘see, we told you so’.

They say they are sincerely doing what is right for the people of our country.

However, I can’t help but think they are simply doing whatever they think more voters will applaud, with the next election in mind as they strive for power and prestige.

In a city centre, I was asked by a woman to sign her petition for equal rights for women.

I told her I didn’t believe in it, but would sign a petition for equality for all people across the board, regardless of gender, race or anything else.

Thus, the problem. Politicians with their own agenda then find themselves trying to please us with our countless other agendas.

Can you remember the phrase, several years ago, ‘positive discrimination’?

Those who were discriminated against found nothing positive in the experience. Others thought it was a positive justification for imposing the very same things upon others they were against happening to them.

Walking the dogs the other morning, I marvelled at a beautiful sunrise on a dark and cold morning as the warm bright colours seemed to blend effortlessly into the rest of the sky.

I took a photo on my phone. Of course, the photo did the scene no justice.

The Bible tells us how wonderfully we are made by our God and how we are the crown of his vast and glorious creation.

Even the human eye can capture things far beyond anything technology can offer. The same can be said about our ears, nose and then, on a whole other level, our brains.

Paul, in his letter to the Ephesians talks of what God gives to us.

Called into one family in unity with one another to grow in maturity to be the society we are intended to be.

This comes from the One who created us. He has the wisdom of the universe the greatest minds cannot begin to understand.

He has one agenda – peace, love and harmony, unity, for all his children.

In His eyes there is no race, creed, colour or gender, only his children whom he loves.

His creation is beautiful and flawless. We distort everything we touch because of our many agendas.

One day, maybe, we will base our thoughts, plans and decisions upon the advice of the one true expert who is free from agendas.

Today’s claim, we make decisions in this dark based upon the experts, the scientists, but, again, mixed up with other agendas, hopes and desires.

The results are clear, regardless of our view.
