During that War, plans were put on hold or cancelled. Many were lost to dreams as countless lives were lost – loves, never to be rekindled, marriages and families that simply could never come to be.

The obvious voice of the war generation for us today is thewonderful man the nation hasome to know as Captain Tom.

Another, speaking of the celebrations they came home to, said: “There was ham and cheese on the table, it was a sight to behold.”

It has made me wonder just how easy we have had life. We complain about how difficult things are. We all know the pressures of life, they are very real. Will we realise how easy we have had things? Never has it been so easy to have so much.

Often, paying for it is the very reason we are under so much pressure, as we fill our life with the luxuries that make life easier and better!

In this era of information where we know so much, I wonder just how much we know, certainly about real peace, real happiness, the simple, stress-free life, if there is such a thing.

Jesus said there would be many wars to come. They are, like all diseases, caused by the complexities and greed of mankind. Jesus also said, many times, ‘do not worry or be afraid, come to me and find true peace’. It is my deepest hope that the many turning to God for answers at this time will realise Jesus is the answer. He said: “I am the way, the truth and the life!”

Like all truly good and lasting solutions, they are rarely as expected, but, without exception considerably better.

I hope we realise we have made things so easy, yet, at the same time unbelievably stress-filled and complicated.

God is the ultimate and truly perfect parent. He loves all his children, that is all of us, equally. Jesus is the way, he himself said: “No-one comes to the Father except through me.”

When this battle with the disease is over, I hope we remember the people, the simpler things and the things that filled our days. We have so much more, in lockdown, than those people returning from war had for their great celebrations. God is good and is leading all who will see into a better future once again.
