‘I see the same old in this new world we are living in’

Where you like me? After the initial shock of Corona virus and lockdown, once you found your way and routines, did you see some hope? Where you uplifted by slogans on the news and social media?

The world will never be the same again! As a people we will all be changed! The new normal!

Are you like me? Disappointed at what we witnessed recently?

Of course, we have the government minister who many say has been a naughty boy. Is that news? He is hardly the first. Well, its news, but it is not new.

You may think he was wrong. You may have sympathy for him. Those, in the spotlight, clamouring for the same thing, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them had sympathy for him. The same, old thing is not his head on a plate. It is the scandal.

They are all deeply offended, and on our behalf. The hypocrisy of this man! Are you aware how many of these deeply offended politicians have done the very same, similar, or worse during lockdown? Did you notice how well the scrum of reporters observed social distancing and safe practice in order to bombard this hypocrite of a man?

I see the same, old same old.

This Sunday is the birthday of the Christian Church. Pentecost. This is when the early disciples emerged and took the life of Jesus to people for the first time.

The book of Acts in the bible tells the story of the building of that early Christian church. In it the disciples are told to go and tell the people about a new life which God offers to everyone.

These men and women boldly told people of their wrongs, hypocrisies and double standards. But they never condemned anyone, called for heads to roll or lives to be ruined. They offered a new life.

Life in a God that doesn’t condemn people but shows mercy, grace and forgiveness. A God who offers a new life, a better life. One that builds people up, helps and loves our fellow man.

A bit like the ‘New world’ we briefly caught a glimpse of recently.

God offers a new life. He is not a God who holds the past against us but leads us to a much better future.
