Closing an excellent school deprives parents of choice

May I stress my anger at closing Dronfield's excellent schools. It takes away my opportunity to choose the correct school for my children. They are all top-performing OFSTED schools.

The new school doesn't allow enough room even for today's children, 428 not including nursery, never mind the future.

Numbers will increase due to the current population dying out and leaving family homes to be sold to new families. New houses being built will be aimed at young families. The national birth rate is increasing and has been the highest in 26 years.

Will my children have to find another school when they can't fit in or will they 'squeeze' them in only for education to suffer as it does when classes are over crowded?

No adequate provisions for nursery. No provisions for pre-nursery. No provisions for kids clubs.

Next to doctors surgery. Many busy roads to cross. Too many children, parents, teachers, doctors, staff, patients and adult students will make the area very dangerous, noisy and impossible to park.

Local home owners I am sure would not like the increased traffic and noise. I am sure that their house prices would also suffer.

Anyone can run the new school (church, other religion based education boards, council, etc.). So if I disagree with who is running the school where else can I take my children?

Now they plan to leave me with no choices.

How disgusted I was with the attitude of Alan Charles. I attended one of the recent meetings at Henry Fanshaw and I was shocked by his rudeness and general behaviour. A lady asked the first question of the night and straight away he raised his eyes to the ceiling. He may have heard that question before but I don't think he realised that this was a consultation meeting.

Many people including my wife and others were unable to come due to no provision of a crche and so had to stay home and look after their children.

Many people came out of the consultation meeting feeling that this was a done deal and, immaterial of our concerns, they were adamant that this was going ahead.

A 420- place school is not big enough.
