Beware bicycle law

I was shocked and stunned to learn that all these years I have been aiding and abetting a serious crime, one of which everybody who is a responsible parent may have committed... my family have just been issued with a strong police warning.

Complaints have been made about my nine-year-old son riding his bike on and around the pavement both outside his house and on his road. This is an offence.

The law clearly states that you cannot ride a bicycle on the pavement at any age.

My hands are tied, I must now purchase a cycle helmet and a copy of the Highway Code for my son, plus scan the yellow pages to compare bicycle insurance quotes as, I am sure, in the unlikely event of an accident I might get enough compensation to bury him.

I have lived in Firvale for 25 years and in Sheffield all my life, noticing first hand an array of crimes being committed, corruption, drug misuse, drug dealing, gun/knife crime, extortion, counterfeiting, prostitution, littering, racism, and not to mention road traffic offences (oops I did).

So I feel I have to put pen to paper at last, if only to warn any children or parents about the “bicycle law”.
