Angry? No, I’m furious that they can still get away with it - Editor's comment

Levelling up? What a joke. It was a promise made before the last election, repeated endlessly since and yet still only seems to work in the wrong direction.

The clearest example of it being brought into play was when the vaccine supply was slowed down here to enable 'equal' numbers to be vaccinated in other areas. When it comes to roads, rail, airports there is literally nothing fair about it and I have yet to even hear any decent suggestions which could give us hope. At least we can rely on the direct service straight from Sheffield to Manchester Airport, used by many of us back in the days when holidays were allowed. Not for long. The ironic thing is it is one of the most reliable train services which come through our city and it is vital to many people as they travel to their jobs.

Blossom, babies and a glass that is collectively half full - Editor's comment

When there are so few of our transportation links which work well, why oh spoil it? Sheffield is always bottom of the pile when it comes to big projects and it is beyond time that our leaders stood up and fought for us. How on earth can it be acceptable that the north's two biggest cities are only connected by roads which are small, dangerous and unsuitable? It is utterly wrong that these things are not being improved and, in fact, getting worse for Sheffield. I know there is the 'sweetener' of improved services to Liverpool but, for those who fear travelling north of the Watford Gap yet control the decisions, that isn't a suburb of Manchester. We need decent links between all of our big cities. As for us being able to use it as a weapon to improve links to Doncaster Sheffield Airport, it is only weeks since the government rejected the vital plans for for a £300m airport rail link saying it "would not offer value for money". Grrr.

Remember the drama around the main Sheffield-London commuter train being slowed down to help services in the south east? Are your eyes open to just how much is spent per head on transport in the south compared to here? It has always been ludicrously unfair but when a government has been elected on the mantra that they will make it better, they play a dangerous game by doing the opposite. And, let's be honest, when other parties have been in power it has made no tangible difference. Then there's our local communication and campaigning failures . Angry, we should all be furious.
