Sheffield shoppers have been waiting patiently for the Lidl store on Castlebeck Avenue to reopening after closing their doors in early 2016.

Lidl was granted planning permission back in November 2014 for a new multimillion pound store to be built on the site of the existing building.

The store was knocked down in early 2016 as workers prepared for its expansion and Lidl stated that the new, larger store would open in February 2017.

However, despite signs of the store stating the shop would be open in 'early 2017', months have gone by without any news or potential reopening date for the store.

Frustrated shoppers have continuously taken to Twitter to enquire when the store would be reopening with Lidl telling many residents to 'check back for future updates'.

However, in December last year, Lidl began telling customers that the store should reopen in early February 2017 'if all goes to plan'.

Yesterday, the company took to Twitter again to respond to another question of when the store would be reopening and provided a provisional reopening date.

Lidl said that they were aiming to reopen the store on Thursday, February 15.

The Lidl store is one of two in Sheffield currently closed for refurbishment after the Halifax Road site shut its doors just before New Years.

Work on the extension and refurbishment was expected to last around six weeks with a view to reopening the store in February.
