Online art exhibition based on public's '˜view of Sheffield' launched

Residents' views of Sheffield have been transformed into artwork by a team of designers and put on display in the city.

Creative agency Über asked members of the public for their opinions on what Sheffield means to them.

A team of designers then created pieces of art based on their comments and put them on display as part of the ‘A view of Sheffield’ exhibition.

Jon McClure, lead singer of Reverend and the Makers, was one of the contributors.

Those who took part were then invited to view the artwork at the S1 Artspace during Sheffield Design Week.

Rob Sansom, Über’s creative director, said: “This project allows us to tap into an interesting and broad collection of opinions about the city.

“We’re really impressed with what Sheffield’s creative community has brought to the table and how these ‘views’ have been interpreted and brought to life.”

A spokesperson for the project added: “Taking inspiration from a city of contrast, Über’s collaborative creative project has focused on representing Sheffield as a whole, from its industrial heritage to its beautiful countryside.

“Across the city, Über gathered together opinions from those who know it best, before asking a range of designers to interpret these quotes as works of art.

“The project received a great response, with some of the city’s most respected creatives submitting their work.

“Truly sharing Sheffield’s diverse design abilities, artwork was produced in Sheffield steel, interactive prints, photography, 3D model kits and even typography through butchers’ twine.”

A website has now been launched to allow anyone to view the artwork online at www.aviewofsheffield.co.uk
