AN ACCLAIMED one-man show about the life of American singer, actor and political activist Paul Robeson is coming to schools in Sheffield and Rotherham.

Written and performed by Tayo Aluko, Call Mr Robeson, a show with songs, has been widely praised in the UK and the United States.

Robeson was a famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner, who sang to huge audiences in Britain and around the world.

When he got progressively too radical and outspoken for the establishment’s liking, he was branded a traitor to his country, harassed, and denied opportunities to perform or travel.

The play is a rollercoaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable and eventful life.

Call Mr Robeson will be at Tapton School, Sheffield, on Monday, October 15; Dinnington Comprehensive School on Wednesday, October 17 at 7pm, City School, Sheffield on Thursday, October 18 and there will be a public performance at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology on Friday, October 19 at 7pm.
