PROUD South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire communities are preparing to welcome the Olympic torch on its relay around Britain ahead of the 2012 Games in London.
The torch will travel through Lundwood, Cundy Cross, Barnsley, Darton, Kexbrough, Chapeltown, Ecclesfield and Parson Cross into Sheffield on June 25, before heading to Rotherham, Templeborough, Dalton, Thrybergh, Conisbrough, Warmsworth, Doncaster, Armthorpe, Dunsville and Hatfield the next day.
It will return to the area on Friday, June 29, passing through locations in North Derbyshire. Torchbearers will take the flame through Bolsover, Glapwell, Chesterfield, and down to Matlock Bath, where the torch will be carried carefully by cable car to tourist attraction the Heights of Abraham and back.
Ordinary people are being chosen to carry the torch as it makes its way around the country. Nominations have now closed and successful candidates will be announced next month.
