Olympic effort in stitches

IT could be an Olympic event in itself...

Creative pensioner Pauline Gould has spent months crocheting a massive London 2012 scarf which is 250 yards long and tips the scales at 18lbs.

Her efforts were among activities undertaken by residents of Brunswick Gardens retirement complex, in Woodhouse, as part of a challenge to become involved with the forthcoming 2012 Olympics.

Suzanne Simons, who organises activities at Brunswick Gardens, which is run by the Extra Care Charitable Trust, said: “It has been my job to organise an exciting programme and activities have included a mobility scooter relay, darts, treasure hunts and fun days.”

She added: “We also managed to raise £200 for Thornberry Animal Sanctuary by asking residents to guess the weight of the scarf.”
