Older folk get ready to relive the glory days of 1966 football

Have your say

Residents at Sheffield’s Deerlands care home are going football crazy as they prepare to enjoy their own taste of World Cup Fever.

But while football fans across the globe celebrate events in Brazil, the Parson Cross home is turning back the clock to 1966 and England’s legendary victory against Germany.

As part of National Care Home Open Day on June 20, Deerlands – one of 11 homes operated across the city by not for profit organisation Sheffcare – will be hosting a special screening of English football’s greatest moment of sporting glory.

Other events for the day, which will include a visit by Lord Mayor of Sheffield Coun Peter Rippon, will include flag making and music. There will also be refreshments and cakes and a tombola stall with a gift table.
