Old folk flocking to free leisure attractions

SOME of Doncaster's best- known leisure attractions are reporting increased patronage since the borough brought in a free use and discounts scheme for pensioners.

Doncaster Council introduced the scheme called Borough Treasures in 2005 – and around 6,000 over 60s have now signed up for it.

Bosses at the Doncaster Dome say it has had "lots of members" using their passes for discounted entry at the Fitness Village Health Club, since the scheme was launched.

And James Ferguson, Potteric Carr Nature Reserve's manager, said: "Being part of the Borough Treasures scheme has been great for us because we are now getting new visitors coming to our reserve.

"Scheme members enjoy bringing their grandchildren with them, showing them the wildlife we have here, and we have had lots of positive comments from people saying they will come back again."

Any Doncaster resident over 60 can become a member of the Borough Treasures scheme by taking proof of their identity to one of the council's Customer Service Centres, the Mansion House or Blue Building, High Street.

They will be given a membership pass, badge, booklet, and sheet of vouchers.
