Old bridge in Sheffield is strengthened by 20 tonnes of steel

A bridge built in the early 20th century is set to fully reopen this month after months of improvement works.

Walkley Lane Bridge, which crosses the River Loxley at Hillsborough, has been re-strengthened with more than 20 tonnes of steel.

Other upgrades to the cast-iron bridge, which have been ongoing since last August, include a new road layout, wider pavements and new surfaces to the road and pavements.

Also, a new a new two-way cycle lane was installed over the weekend to improve cyclist safety.
