Police have praised revellers for acting responsibly when bringing in the New Year.
An extra 70 officers took to the streets of Sheffield on New Year’s Eve to keep trouble at bay while people celebrated the arrival of 2015.
Police said that while they experienced a ‘busy night’ the vast majority of revellers were well behaved.
Superintendent Scott Green said: “Overnight we dealt with a high volume of calls and by 4am this morning the police cells in Sheffield were all full.
“That said, the majority of people out celebrating did so responsibly.
“Thanks to those people, and also to the officers on patrol that dealt with anybody who caused trouble promptly and proportionately.”
Police said the majority of the arrests made were alcohol-related incidents, including a number of assaults.
