A police officer who served with a rogue PC jailed for six years for stealing from a 94-year-old widow has voiced his disgust towards the thief on social media.

PC John Leonard Webb, 45, from Millhouses, was jailed for six years for stealing £24,000 from the widow and targeting two other victims.

Det Supt Terry Mann called him ‘an utter disgrace to the uniform’.

Insp Ian Stubbs from Woodseats and Gleadless Safer Neighbourhood Team posted comments on Facebook and Twitter which said: “As many of you may know, John Webb used to work here at Woodseats. I would just like to reiterate Terry Mann’s comments.

“He is and was a disgrace to South Yorkshire Police, and ex-colleagues here are as disgusted as everyone else. He is a criminal, simple as that.”

He added: “Having dealt with the original complaint I would also personally like to thank those who came forward with information.

“It takes courage to make these type of allegations against serving police officers, and without their courage this individual may not be behind bars now.”
