Off road riders have ban lifted

Have your say

OFF-road motorbike and 4x4 enthusiasts have persuaded the High Court to overturn a ban on motor vehicles on a historic road through the Peak District.

Members of the Trail Riders’ Fellowship, currently fighting plans to ban motor vehicles from Long Causeway, between Redmires and Hathersage, and a second route near Chapel-en-le-Frith, say they are ‘delighted’ with the ruling.

The Peak District National Park Authority must now reopen Chapel Gate, near Edale, which has been closed to motor vehicles for the last 15 months on an experimental basis.

Mr Justice Ouseley ruled that the precise wording used in the reasons for the ban ‘did not reflect fully’ the experiment being carried out and so quashed the order, after a case brought by the TRF.
