PENSIONERS will prove the Olympic spirit is alive and well with Sheffield’s older generation.
Residents from two care homes in the city will be battling it out in a host of sporting contests during their own Games celebration. Both Anchor’s Eagle House in Stalker Lees Road and Prior Bank in Cherry Tree Road are taking part in the week-long event, which kicks off on Monday, to mark London 2012.
Every day, there will be a different activity including a giant skittles game.
Joanne Thornhill, manager of Eagle House, said: “I’m hoping the week will be very enjoyable for customers and staff in this friendly competition between the homes. Fingers crossed the weather stays fine for our sporting challenge as this will entice our customers to go out into the garden to try out different activities which will promote their physical and mental wellbeing.”
