OAP is conned by bogusbuilders

A DONCASTER pensioner had £2,500 savings snatched by a gang of bogus builders.

The 85-year-old man was duped into agreeing to have his guttering repaired for 350 - but one of the conmen grabbed hundreds more as the pensioner went to get cash from a tin at his home in Graham Road, Kirk Sandall.

Police say the burglary happened after four men called and said work needed doing on the man’s guttering.

They quoted 350 for the job and one of the men followed the pensioner into the house as he went to get his money. As he got out a container the man grabbed approximately 2,500 from the tin and left.

The other three men were waiting in a white Transit-type van nearby and all left the area travelling towards Doncaster.

Det Sgt Rich Partridge, of Doncaster CID, said today: “This elderly gentleman has been very shocked by what happened to him. Although he wasn’t injured he is very upset because they have conned their way into his home.”

Police say the first male was white, of slim build, with short dark hair. He was clean shaven, spoke with an Irish accent and was approximately 6ft.
