OAP airlifted to hospital after Peak District fall

A PENSIONER was airlifted to hospital in Sheffield after falling 15m from the top of Peters Stone in the Peak District.

The 74-year-old was rescued by members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team after the fall near Cressbrook Dale, Litton.

He suffered head injuries head injuries, grazes and lacerations and was treated by Derbyshire Air Ambulance paramedics and an East Midlands Ambulance Service team.

The OAP was placed on a spinal board and transferred to an ambulance which flew him to the Northern General Hospital in Fir Vale, Sheffield.

Neil Carruthers, leader of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, said: “The casualty had fallen a considerable distance, suffering a nasty injury.

“Potentially his injuries could have been much more serious.”
