POLICE have issued a fresh warning to motorists following a plague of number plate thefts from cars in Chesterfield.
Since April 26 incidents of number plates being stolen have been reported to police.
The majority have taken place in the Stonegravels, Newbold and Whittington Moor areas of the town.
Police said number plates were stolen often to be screwed on to other cars which are then used in crimes.
Insp Steve Ball said: “In some cases the number plates have been used to disguise vehicles in order for crime to be committed.”
The police are offering free ‘tamper proof number plate screws’ for motorists to fix to their cars.
The kits are limited to two per person, and stocks are limited.
