Your recent correspondent ask’s whether Robin Hood’s grave is on Wadsley Common.
No Sir it is not nor is our supposed local version of Arbor Low.
In fact you could have herds of wildebeeste grazing on the Common but the area has been so badly managed over the years you couldn’t find them in the forests of birch and the tangles of undergrowth.
Wadsley itself? Being submerged and choked under bricks and mortar.
Yet on what was the Wadsley Hall Estate (Sutton Estate) you can still see traces of former field boundaries and pick up fragments of farm labourers clay pipes.
