Not funded by the EU

I am always incensed by the headlines that claim '˜funded by the EU'.

Yes, in their graciousness they have said ‘Oui’ to some of our applications for funding.

But, and it is a big but, as net contributors, it is our money that funds these projects not the largesse of the EU.

Don’t forget that we borrow every single day to fund our services, but also to allow us to send £350 million a week to the EU.

The money is borrowed, interest is charged, the money is sent and then, after they have decided on the veracity of our applications, they send the money back. All that time we are paying interest. Not the best of housekeeping exercises! Payday loans have nothing on this exercise.Yours, grateful that we are out.
