Norovirus outbreak over at hospital

An outbreak of norovirus at Scunthorpe General Hospital has been declared over by the hospital’s infection control team.

Patients and staff on ward 16 who were affected have now recovered. A deep clean is being carried out and the ward is expected to open tomorrow.

Two wards in total were affected by the outbreak, which started two weeks ago.

Dr Peter Cowling, consultant microbiologist, says members of the public should still remain vigilant: “This virus is still circulating in our local community and is extremely contagious so if you experience symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting please stay away from the hospital until you have been free of symptoms for at least 48 hours.”
