Sheffield Council does not know how it will be able to spend a promised £12.5 million adult social care grant - or even if will go to the authority at all.

Speaking at today's cabinet meeting, the council's acting executive director for resources Eugene Walker said he had been checking for details from the Government 'every day' since the funding was announced by Philip Hammond in last week's spring Budget.

But Mr Walker said there was no sign how the Chancellor wanted the money to be spent.

The council is due to get £12.5 million of new funding for adult social care in 2017/18, £7.7 million in 2018/19 and £3.8 million in 2019/20.

This week Liberal Democrat councillors called on the council to use some of the money to keep Hurlfield View, a dementia respite centre due to close this month, open.Mr Walker said: "Unfortunately what we do not yet know what what conditions are attached to that additional funding.

"I keep looking every day to see if there's any further update. As yet there is no further news."

Mr Walker said there was a possibility the money could be given to Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group, rather than the council.
