Night at the dogs honours troops

Owlerton Greyhound Stadium is joining forces with armed forces charities to host an evening in honour of the region’s troops.

The Military Heroes event, from 6.30pm on Tuesday, June 7, will celebrate the achievements of Yorkshire’s armed forces, while raising funds for those in need.

All funds raised at the event will be split between the Army Benevolent Fund – which provides lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families – and Help for Heroes, which supports injured troops.

The event will be attended by members of the armed forces based in Yorkshire, including those from Catterick.

It will feature a static military display involving a military Jeep, weapon carrier and small Canadian truck to give guests an insight into army life.

A charity raffle and auction held on the night will include some genuine army memorabilia including a framed escape map, a bottle of authentic SAS wine, tickets to the Military Tattoo in Earls Court and even a tandem skydive with the Red Devils.

John Gilburn, managing director of Owlerton Stadium, said: “These are great charities that are close to all our hearts and we are delighted to be working with them.

“The servicemen and women are the true heroes of our country and we are hoping South Yorkshire will really get behind this event and help us raise some funds for these most deserving of charities.”
