A poll for trade union Unite –which put Labour in the lead in Sheffield Hallam – has been dismised as ‘ utter bilge’ by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg – the seat’s current Liberal Democrat MP.
The survey put Labour ahead on 33 per cent and the Liberal Democrats at 23 per cent.
However, it is said results did not include undecided voters, or those who refused to answer.
Unite said the poll also showed a majority of people opposed the inclusion of the NHS in an EU-US trade deal and Mr Clegg needed to ‘demand protection for the NHS’.
Mr Clegg said: “This poll is utter, utter bilge. Surprise, surprise, the trade union paymasters of the Labour Party have come out with a poll which shows Labour is ahead.”
