A WOMAN was taken to hospital after she tried to tackle a fire in the bedroom of her home in Constable Way, Gleadless.

The 50 year-old suffered burns to both hands and smoke inhalation, and was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General hospital after the blaze broke out at 9.21am yesterday morning.

Firefighters from Lowedges station praised a man who helped the woman and her pet dog escape from the burning house.

It is believed the fire was started by an electric heater.

A FIRE lit to burn waste in a South Yorkshire garden on Sunday night got out of control and spread to trees, a shed and guttering.

Fire crews from Rotherham station attended the blaze in Charnwood Grove, Kimberworth, at around 8.35pm after wind whipped up the fire which had been stated in a brazier.

THREE cars - A VW Polo, an Audi and a Ford Focus - which were parked at a repair centre in Barrow Road, Wincobank, Sheffield, were damaged in a fire at around 2am yesterday morning. Firefighters from Elm Lane station attended the blaze and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

A FAULTY electric blanket caused a mattress to smoulder at a dwelling in Uppergate Road, Stannington, Sheffield, at around 11.30pm on Sunday night.

Firefighters from Rivelin station attended and stopped a fire from properly breaking out.

A man in his 50s and a woman in her 80s were given treatment for smoke inhalation at the scene.

FIREFIGHTERS from Mansfield Road and Mosborough stations were called out after a row of conifers in a garden at Weakland Crescent, Hackenthorpe, were reported to be on fire.

Fire crews got the call at around 11.30pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

A KITCHEN at a home in Hall Road, Moorgate, Rotherham, was left smoke damaged after a pan fire.

Firefighters from Rotherham station were quickly on the scene after being alerted at 9pm on Sunday night. No one was injured.

TWO men were arrested on suspicion of a series of garage burglaries in Woodhouse, Sheffield, in the early hours of Sunday.

They have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
