News In Brief: Walker rescued in Peak District

MOUNTAIN Rescue workers were called out to rescue a hill walker who had slipped and suffered a broken ankle in the Peak District.

The injured 59-year-old had fallen on the ridge between Win Hill and Hope Cross, near Castleton.

He was brought down from the hillside and taken to hospital by road because the air ambulance could not land due to mist.

House arson attack

ARSONISTS are believed to be responsible for a fire which caused extensive damage to a derelict house in Sheffield.

Firefighters were called out to the property on Skinnerthorpe Road, Fir Vale, which is empty and awaiting demolition, and spent around two hours tackling the flames which had spread from the ground floor to the first floor bedrooms.

Tower fire alarm

COOKING fumes triggered fire alarms at the 32-storey St Paul’s City Lofts tower in Sheffield. Firefighters were called as a precaution after the alarm sounded on the fifth floor.
