LADIES are invited to put their best feet forward for a women-only walk tomorrow morning.

Sheffield Council’s rangers will lead a seven-mile tour taking in beauty spots around Shire Brook Valley, Woodhouse, to highlight the attractiveness of the ‘forgotten valley’, which offers good views, heathland, woodland, grassy meadows and babbling brooks. There will be a lunch break near the visitor centre, and a pace suitable for all abilities. Meet at Shire Brook Valley visitor centre in Stone Lane, Woodhouse, at 10.30am. Arsonists’ blazes

THE doorway of a tailor’s shop on Staniforth Road in Darnall, Sheffield, was set alight in an arson attack. Firefighters extinguished the flames at 12.15am yesterday and stopped them spreading inside.

Arsonists were also responsible for two car fires in Gleadless Valley within the space of three hours. The first involved a Vauxhall Zafira alight on Ironside Place at 1.15am yesterday and the second involved a Renault Megane on nearby Ironside Road .

Roadwork warning

DEARNE Valley Parkway in Barnsley will be closed between the Hemingfield Road roundabout and Cortonwood roundabout from next Monday. Barnsley Council plans to carry out essential maintenance works to the Intake Canal bridge deck. The work is expected to last around six weeks.

Pile of wood on fire

FIREFIGHTERS called out to disused business premises on fire found a pile of wood burning inside. The blaze on Sylvester Street in Sheffield city centre was discovered at 6pm on Wednesday.

Cigarette blaze

A CARELESSLY discarded cigarette was to blame for a fire in a flat in the Newton Croft block, Chapel Street, Woodhouse, Sheffield. Nobody was injured in the blaze at 7.30pm on Wednesday.

House burgled

A HOUSE on Lupton Road, Lowedges, was broken into last Friday afternoon when the door was forced open. Police are investigating.
