NEWS IN BRIEF: Thieves fled after botched break-in

THIEVES broke into a house on Meadowhead, in Meadowhead, Sheffield, and stole the keys to a car parked outside - but fled empty-handed when they were disturbed.

They struck at 1.30am on Saturday.

Police are also investigating the theft of a car after the house it was parked outside was broken into for the keys. The theft on Lupton Road, Lowedges, was reported overnight on Monday last week.

Cars broken into

A SATELLITE navigation system was stolen from a car on Lightwood Lane, Norton, Sheffield, after the device was left on display. The thief struck on Saturday night. Other cars were broken into on Charles Ashmore Road, Greenhill, and Burcot Road, Meersbrook, overnight on Friday into Saturday.

Waste set on fire

FIREFIGHTERS put out a blaze in a skip on Senior Road, Darnall, after complaints about smoke. The fire had been started to get rid of rubbish but was unattended when crews arrived at 12.35pm yesterday.

Stolen Audi ablaze

A STOLEN Audi A3 was set alight in an arson attack on Berners Road, Arbourthorne, Sheffield. The blaze was reported to firefighters at 3am yesterday.

Shed burgled

POLICE are investigating a shed break-in on Edge Hill Road, Nether Edge, Sheffield, overnight on Thursday into Friday last week. Anyone with information should call police on 101.

Car out of control

A CAR caught fire after it ran out of control and crashed into a wall on Sedgefield Way, Mexborough. Firefighters were called to extinguish the flames at 8pm on Monday.

Pipework stripped

METAL pipework has been stripped from a house on Myrtle Road, Lowfield, Sheffield. Police have been told it was stolen sometime between August and October.

Vandals arrested

THREE vandals were arrested for smashing the wing mirrors of cars parked on Linburn Road, Woodseats, on Saturday night.
