ROTHERHAM is one of the most rain-resistant towns in the UK according to a survey which found shopper numbers have gone up despite the downpours.

Springboard, which monitors town centres’ performance, found Rotherham enjoyed an 8.8 per cent year-on-year increase in footfall during April.

Celebrating name

A CHARITY which helps older people in Barnsley is hosting an event tomorrow to celebrate its new name.

The town’s Age Concern has joined forces with charity Age UK, and is now operating as Barnsley Age UK. Staff will be on hand in Barnsley town centre to discuss the changes from 10am until 4pm.

Community day

A CREATIVE community day is to be held in Sharrow in Sheffield on Sunday for residents to paint displays, murals and planters around the Old Junior School site, South View Road. Turn up between noon and 3pm with paint brushes and spades.

Heritage talk

A HERITAGE talk will be held tonight from 7pm at Killamarsh Leisure Centre. Entry is £1 on the door.
