NEWS IN BRIEF: Pedestrian fights for life after crash

A PEDESTRIAN has suffered life-threatening injuries after a collision with a car.

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash at 8pm on Tuesday, on Park Road, Barnsley at the junction wuth Middlesex Street.

The 36-year-old woman was struck by a blue Ford Fiesta driven by a 28-year-old Barnsley man.

She suffered a serious head-injury, broken ribs and a suspected broken pelvis, and was taken to Barnsley Hospital.

Vehicles set ablaze

ARSONISTS are believed to be responsible for setting fire to a Vauxhall Astra car on Cortworth Lane, Wentworth, at around 8.20pm on Tuesday, and a car was found burning on Cat Lane in Heeley, Sheffield, just before midnight the same day.

Chopper hoax call

SOUTH Yorkshire Police’s helicopter was scrambled to reports of a person armed with a weapon in Herringthorpe. The call-out, on Monday night, is believed to be a hoax.
