A MAN was due to appear before Doncaster magistrates today - Saturday, June 25, 2011 - after being arrested following a domestic incident at a house in Tickhill on Thursday.

Police were called to Tickhill at around 11pm after an alleged dispute over custody of a young boy.

The police helicopter was deployed to help search for a 25-year-old man and he was located on King Edward Road at around 11.30pm.

A police spokesman said he was arrested and charged with common assault on a woman and possession of an offensive weapon, a baseball bat. The child was unharmed.

Aerial platform

AN ELDERLY man had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze broke out in a loft in Pot House Lane, Stocksbridge, Sheffield.

Crews used water jets and an aerial platform to put out the flames, which had spread to a bedroom, on Thursday afternoon.

Deliberate fire

A VAN fire on Newmarch Street in Tinsley, Sheffield, is believed to have been started deliberately.

The pick-up truck was set alight at around midnight on Thursday and the flames had to be extinguished by firefighters from Darnall station.

Asda jobs open

APPLICATIONS have opened for 350 new jobs being created at Asda’s new store on Chaucer Road, Parson Cross, Sheffield. The store is due to open in September.

Recycled flames

A PAPER recylcing bin was set alight at a supermarket in Barnsley. Firefighters put out the blaze at Tesco on Wombwell Lane, Stairfoot, which broke out at 8.15pm on Thursday.

Arson attack

arsonists set fire to a shed in Masbrough, Rotherham. Fire crews from the town attended the blaze on Clough Road, near allotments, at around 7.30pm on Wednesday.

Vauxhall blaze

A CAR fire involving a silver Vauxhall Passat on Skinnerthorpe Road in Firth Park, Sheffield, was believed to have been started deliberately. A fire crew from Elm Lane attended at around 1am on Thursday.

Chip shop plan

COUNCILLORS approved plans to convert two empty shop units on Ben Lane, Wisewood, into a fish and chip shop.

Aid for animals

A STREET collection on The Moor in Sheffield city centre raised just under £485 for Thornberry Animal Sanctuary at North Anston.
