NEWS IN BRIEF: Lucky escape after blaze in kitchen

RESIDENTS escaped unharmed after a kitchen fire at their South Yorkshire home.

The blaze broke out at a house on Gerald Road, Kendray, at 3pm yesterday and was tackled by firefighters.

It took an hour to deal with the fire and make the property safe.

Crews were also sent to a house on Broom Road, Broom, Rotherham, to ventilate a smoke-logged house, at 5.30pm yesterday.

School fair date

HALFWAY Nursery Infant School in Station Road, Halfway, is holding its summer fair on Saturday, June 23, from 12.30pm until 4pm.

The fair will be opened by youngsters singing a song, and there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony by two of the children.

There will be a display of children’s country dancing, stalls, games and a balloon release.

Nursery open day

HIGH Riggs Nursery and Garden Centre in Stannington is holding an open day on Sunday, June 24, from 10am to 4pm.

The nursery in Riggs High Road is hosting bow making and archery, country crafts - blacksmithing - hanging basket making, green woodworking, dry stone walling, willow weaving and live music.

Thieves steal cars

TWO cars were driven off the driveway of a house on California Lane, Barlborough, Chesterfield, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The white VW Golf and blue BMW 3 series were taken at around 3am. Thieves broke in to the kitchen of the house they were parked outside and stole the keys.

Numbers nicked

THIEVES stole number plates from a car on Becket Walk, Lowedges, Sheffield.

Call 101 to pass on information to police investigating the incident.

Garage break-in

POLICE are investigating after a garage was broken into on Victoria Court, Nether Edge, Sheffield.
