NEWS IN BRIEF: Lorry driver hurt in motorway crash

A LORRY driver suffered a stomach injury in a crash.

The 39-year-old had to be freed from his truck by firefighters after colliding with a Transit van on the M1 southbound, between Junctions 33, with the Sheffield Parkway, and 32, with the M18, on Monday, at about 9.20am.

The trucker was helped from his cab by firefighters and taken to Rotherham Hospital. The van driver was unhurt.

A motorist was also taken to hospital after a two-car crash on the A619 at Baslow at about 6.45pm on Monday.

Shed set on fire

ARSONISTS set fire to a shed on Dodworth Road, Barnsley.

The incident happened on Monday, at about 10.30pm.

A car was also set alight on Firshill Rise, Pitsmoor, Sheffield, at 9pm.

Crews tackle blaze

FIREFIGHTERS were called to put out a pile of burning rubbish on a playground in Staveley.

Crews were called on Monday, just after 5.05pm.
