FREE parking is available in Chesterfield town centre after 4pm at council-owned car parks in the run-up to Christmas, until December 23.

The council hopes the move will increase festive trade and help struggling shops.

Join in the fun at markets

SHOPPERS are invited to join in some Christmas fun – while supporting local businesses – at a series of festive-themed markets being held in North East Derbyshire.

The markets are at Clay Cross on Saturday, December 17, Killamarsh on Thursday, December 22, and Eckington on Friday, December 23.

Santa’s grottos, street entertainment, music, prize giveaways from local businesses and a range of stalls are among the attractions on offer at the markets and free car parking is available in each town.

Carol concert sold out

A CAROL concert taking place on Monday at Underbank Chapel, Stannington, has sold out.

The afternoon of singing, mince pies and mulled wine has been so popular in the past that all the tickets have now gone.

Singing at the church hall

MORE carol signing will be held on Monday by Wadsley and Loxley Commoners.

The event is at Wadsley Church Hall, Worrall Road, from 7.30pm, with singers accompanied by folk singer and fiddle player Robin Garside.

There will be a small charge for entry and free refershments of mince pies and mulled wine available.
