NEWS IN BRIEF: Family escape burning home

A FAMILY in Barnsley fled their home after fire broke out in the early hours of yesterday.

The fire started in the loft at the house on Rainton Grove, Gawber, and is believed to have been sparked by an electrical fault in a light fitted to the attic ceiling. Four fire engines were called at quarter past midnight, and stayed until just before 5am. Two adults and a child were already out when crews arrived.

Witness appeal

WITNESSES are being sought after a car bonnet was damaged in Chesterfield. The Vauxhall Astra was damaged at around 10.30pm on July 14 while parked on Barker Lane. Police would like to speak to people in the area at the time - in particular guests at a house party on the street.
