News In Brief: Dementia charity’s £2,000 boost

DEMENTIA charity Lost Chord has raised almost £2,000 thanks to its part in national fundraising campaign The Big Give’s Christmas Challenge.

The organisation that provides musical experiences for people with dementia took part in a Big Give Christmas Auction, selling online a Casio digital piano donated by Sheffield music shop Millington Music.

“It helped us to raise our profile nationally and highlight the work we do not just in South Yorkshire,” said Lost Chord fundraising manager Tina Harrison.

MP on the airwaves

Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis is to host a Christmas radio show this Saturday on station ‘We Are Barnsley’. As well as playing some of his favourite Christmas hits, Jarvis will be interviewing Wolves manager Mick McCarthy and author Milly Johnson. Podcasts of the show will be aired in Barnsley Hospital and sent to troops serving in Afghanistan.

Keep OAPs warm

Wilkinson stores in Barnsley and Haymarket and Crystal Peaks in Sheffield are urging customers to support Age UK by donating old winter coats to keep old folk warm this winter. Collection points are in all Wilkinson stores until January 31 for coats to be dropped off, then sold through Age UK shops, with all profits going to winter warmth projects.

Festive music night

ECCLESFIELD Handbell Ringers host an evening of seasonal music on Saturday at Gatty Hall, Priory Road, Ecclesfield. Tickets are £5. Call 0114 234 2608 for more details.

Tenants party

GREENHILL and Bradway Tenants and Residents Association hold a Christmas party on Saturday - with Santa dropping in to the Gresley Road Meeting Rooms from 2pm.

to 4pm. Sheffield Homes has provided funds for the party.

STEPHEN Hill Methodist Church, on Manchester Road, Crosspool, Sheffield, holds its annual carol service on Sunday at 4pm. A Christingle Service takes place at 4pm on Christmas Eve.
