NEWS IN BRIEF: Clintons store stays open in city centre

Have your say

THE Birthdays card store in Meadowhall - part of Clintons - has closed, according to administrators for the stricken group.

But the Clintons shop on Fargate, Sheffield city centre, is still open and continuing to trade.

The group, the UK’s biggest specialist cards retailer with nearly 800 stores and 8,000 staff, fell into administration last month.

Some 397 stores were sold to American Greetings on Friday, saving 4,500 jobs.

But administrators Zolfo Cooper closed 43 of the 330 stores not included in the deal, leading to 408 redundancies. It comes after they closed 44 sites last month.

Loose tile callout

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Chesterfield hotel Casa to remove a loose tile that threatened to crash on to the car park.

Officers were called to the hotel on Lockoford Lane Saturday evening, as Elton John played in the B2Net stadium over the road, after staff raised the alarm.

They used an aerial ladder platform to reach the tile on a vertical section 60ft up, after closing the car park. It is believed to have blown loose in the wind.
