NEWS IN BRIEF: Bean set for new World War film role

SHEFFIELD-born actor Sean Bean is to star in a Second World War action-horror film - the 4th Reich. The star will play a British Sergeant Major in the film, which focuses on a brigade of soldiers sent into occupied mainland Europe who come up against a Nazi scientist-created fighting force.

Road to be closed

HILL Street in Elsecar, Barnsley, is to be closed on Monday, May 28, for 10 weeks for railway bridge strengthening. The road will be shut between house numbers 31 and 60 and a diversion will be in place along King Street, Millhouses Street, Milton Road, Armroyd Lane and Fitzwilliam Street.

A YEAR of fundraising by Lodgemoor Townswomen’s Guild has raised £1,550 for Sheffield’s St Luke’s Hospice. Members held a number of special events, including coffee mornings, a strawberry tea and an Elizabethan Evening.

A COFFEE morning this Saturday from 10am to 12noon will raise funds towards a new lighting rig for the Ecclesfield Priory Players theatre on High Street in Ecclesfield. There will be cakes, a raffle, a tombola and bric-a-brac.
