NEWS IN BRIEF: Arsonists set fire to stairwell in flats

A PILE of rubbish was set alight in the stairwell of a block of flats on Ironside Road, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield.

The fire, reported at 9.10pm on Saturday, did not spread to any homes.

In Barnsley a small bonfire was started by vandals in a playground on Pontefract Road, Lundwood, on Saturday night. The same night a bin was set alight on Littleworth Lane, Lundwood.

Hedge set alight

FIREFIGHTERS were called to Howarth Road, Brinsworth, Rotherham, after a hedge was set alight at 9.50pm on Friday. A shed on an allotment on Brecks Lane, East Herringthorpe, was found burning at 5.45pm on Sunday.
