NEWS IN BRIEF: Arson attacks at two caravan sites

TWO derelict caravans were set on fire in separate arson attacks in South Yorkshire on Wednesday night.

The first caravan was set alight at a travellers’ site on Cronkhill Lane, Carlton, Barnsley, at around 8pm.

Later the second went up in flames on Leicester Road, Dinnington, at 9.30pm.

The disused caravan was parked up while being dismantled.

Garage set ablaze

A GARAGE fire at Creswell Crags in North Derbyshire is being treated as suspected arson.

The single-storey garage was set on fire at just before 8.50pm on Wednesday.
Firefighters from Staveley found the structure well alight when they arrived at the scene, and used water jets to put out the blaze.

Later the same night, shortly before 10.10pm, arsonists set another smaller garage on fire on Welbeck Street, Creswell.

Police are investigating both incidents.

Bin blaze accident

RESIDENTS on Whitbourne Close, Smithies, Barnsley, started a fire in their wheelie bin by accident at around 10pm on Wednesday.

Arsonists set fire to rubbish in a skip on Lindsay Drive, Sheffield Lane Top. The blaze happened at 9.50pm on Wednesday.

Rubbish set on fire

A BURNING pile of rubbish was put out by firefighters on a playing field in Shirebrook. Flames broke out at the field on Park Road, at around 11.45pm on Wednesday, and firefighters doused them using buckets of water.
