Sanctuary thanks generous public

AN ANIMAL sanctuary has thanked shoppers for donating almost £400 in street collections.

Staff and volunteers at Thornberry Animal Sanctuary expressed their gratitude after two collections on The Moor in the city centre.

Carol Middleton, from the sanctuary, said: “We are all aware many people are struggling at the moment. That is why we are so grateful - continued support to us is overwhelming.”

Students’ help

BARNSLEY College students have raised over £1,500 for charity through a series of fundraising activities.

The activities, run by the Student Union, have included challenges and a Barnsley College Harlem Shake video for Red Nose Day and Wear it Pink Day for Breast Cancer. The total raised now stands at £1,600 and will be used to support local, national and international charities.

Being a bird

A SHEFFIELD academic’s book about what it is like to be a bird is on sale. About 25 people attended the launch of the paperbook Bird Sense, and a question-and-answer session with author Professor Tim Birkhead, at Waterstones in Orchard Square last month.
