A new wind turbine which can provide enough energy to power 1,000 homes has been installed in North Derbyshire - with plans in the pipeline for two more in South Yorkshire.

Property regeneration company Harworth Estates has installed the 500KW turbine at the former Arkwright surface mine, close to Duckmanton near Chesterfield.

It was developed in partnership with Energy Prospects Co-operative, which has funded the scheme through a public share offer.

The partnership is now working to develop a second 500KW turbine at the former Shafton Two Gates colliery site in Barnsley after planning permission was granted last month.

A planning application has also been submitted for a turbine near Edlington in Doncaster.
