New website keeps residents in the loop

The website - www.syupdates.co.uk – is being run by Northern Powergrid, the company responsible for running the region’s electricity network, and is providing updates on phase two of the project which started earlier this month. This includes details about the traffic management that is in place and information on how the investment will improve the quality and reliability of local electricity supplies.

Anna Stevenson-Trippitt, Northern Powergrid’s project engineer, said: “Major projects like this bring real, long-term benefits for communities but they also require construction work which can temporarily disrupt local road networks.

“We’re working to minimise disruption and we want to ensure that our customers have every opportunity to be kept up-to-date throughout this project.

“Our website will give them access to latest details on how work is progressing and provide a direct link to contact us if they have any questions about the investment we are making in their local power network.”

As part of the project, Northern Powergrid is currently building a new substation next to Doncaster’s Potteric Carr Nature Reserve, to provide future power to around 40,000 customers. The company has installed the majority of the ducting ready for the laying of 23km of new high voltage cable in the Doncaster area.

Phase two sees the electricity distribution company and its contractors, Balfour Beatty, working until April laying and connecting the 23km of new cable, with much of the work taking place along the A630 until mid-March.
